Civil Disturbance or Demonstration
Civil disturbances include riots, property damage, threatening individuals, or assemblies that have become significantly disruptive.
Demonstrations are visible actions designed to advocate a position on a particular issue. Most are peaceful, although they may occasionally cause an inconvenience. They may become problematic when they interfere with University business. The Department of Public Safety and Office of Student Life may monitor demonstrations. A Neutral Observer program is operated by the Office of Student Life for demonstrations with a potential for violence, property damage, or disruption.
In Case of Civil Disturbance or Demonstration:
- Avoid provoking or obstructing demonstrators.
- Secure your area (doors, safes, files, vital records, expensive equipment).
- Avoid the area of the disturbance.
- Report any unauthorized persons in your building to DPS at 346-6666.
- Continue with normal routines as much as possible.
- Stay inside away from doors and windows.
- Notify:
- Department of Public Safety (DPS) at 541-346-6666 if the disturbance threatens individual safety or university property.
- DPS non-emergency 541-346-2919 if there is no threat to persons or property.
