A significant natural or human-caused hazard would have an impact on the University of Oregon's people, programs, and facilities. In recent years, new scientific information and news of other disasters throughout the U.S. and the world have provided heightened awareness of the threats and possible consequences of disasters and an ever-more-vivid picture of our vulnerabilities.

The university is committed to the welfare of its community (students, faculty, staff, and visitors) and to preserving the institution. To fulfill its mission and commitments in the event of a disaster, the University should strive to become disaster resilient. Disaster resilience is achieved through awareness, training, and action.
